Milpeak maintains channel partnerships with key Australian and International VSAT service providers to provide communications infrastructure containing satellite connectivity.  A major component of this line of products is our IDirect service which gives an ADSL-style connection to the internet for a fraction of the cost of a dedicated satellite link and requires only site-based infrastructure rather than the traditional earth-station infrastructure normally required for a satellite link.

These systems are uniquely placed to provide internet connectivity in areas where public carrier-based solutions are either unreliable or not available. In addition to IP connectivity, we also provide telephone gateways integrated with our VoIP exchange, providing telephone and facsimile facilities to remote site offices.

We have mounted these systems on containers and in trailers with good results. A system can be decommissioned and re-deployed within one day—excluding travel time.

VSAT-based solutions can also be integrated with on-site radio systems, such that an office-based employee can call a radio-connected, site-based employee using a variety of interfaces ranging from PC-based applications to fully functional console systems used by a remotely-controlled operation such as for train control, fleet management centre, bore fields, utility control centre, etc.

iNFINITI 3000 series Satellite Router

This is our entry level and most popular router used to interface the project office IT network with the company wide WAN via satellite. Typically this is housed in the server rack with the rest of the office IT network, much like an ADSL router would be. The router is connected to an antenna located outside the building.

The antenna also houses the BUK and LNB which in essence are the transmitter and receiver for the satellite  system on the ground. The BUK and LNB are connected by coax back to the satellite router. The BUK and LNB use the parabolic dish to direct a highly focused signal to the satellite.

Aligning this antenna is not for the faint hearted! It requires specialised equipment and “the knack”. It can be trained to non technical staff, although experience has taught us that unless the antenna is redeployed regularly, users often need re-training. This results in our people being asked to visit site for assistance after all.

vadEDGE 4208a Multiservice Gateway

This gateway is used to integrate other systems with the VSAT network. It forms:
• VoIP gateway for access to 3rd party or internal VoIP services
• Router for the on site IT network
• 4 wire + E&M interfaces for integration with radio networks

The vadEDGE platform supports a wide range of protocols, WAN and user interfaces. This enables customers to aggregate and effectively deliver multiple service streams over almost any bearer communications medium including Packet Radio, 2.5G/3G, PSTN, ISDN, Leased Line and Satellite (VSAT). Combining voice with packet data services such as fax, IP, POS, ATM, vadEDGE efficiently and cost effectively manages bandwidth through dynamic packet fragmentation and compresses voice to 7Kbps whilst ensuring Quality of Service. As a consequence, regardless of whether they’re located at a regional office, remote branch or even deployed to a location miles from civilisation, workers are able to communicate swiftly, clearly and securely with central control teams and send/receive data that enables them to fulfil their role.
