TErrestrial Trunked RAdio (TETRA) is a vendor-independent standard for digital radio and is the dominant European radio technology. It is loosely based on the GSM standard and is gaining an increasing share of the Australian trunked radio network market. This technology caters for individual, group calls, calls to and from a PABX or the PSTN (including to a VoIP exchange), voice and (limited) data. Being a digital technology, TETRA lends itself well to dynamic Alias assignments, moving, mixing and matching group call participation as well as military-grade encryption.
Applications include mining, the military, government agencies, emergency services, rail, and transport services. |
